Barnard Castle - not

Another wonderful weekend of weather meant we were going to enjoy the ride.....

Set off OK and headed along the route. First obstacle was the road was closed. Oops. Some quick thinking got us around the obstacle, but not on the best road on the area (too many cars). Heading for Devils Bridge, I got the sign that someone had stopped. Sure enough, Phils bike had conked out. So, we continued on while 4 of them tried to get it started. We, meanwhile, would wait at Devils bridge in the sunshine (such hardships...).

After about an hour of waiting, we got the phone call - no luck with the bike (electrical problems with the alarm) so we planned a revised route along some nice back roads to the Creamery at Hawes. This was definitely the best part of the day - smooth curves, no traffic  and nice roads.

Once at Hawes, we tucked into our favourite cheeses and ice creams (shared with the chickens as you will see below) and sat around nattering for a while. Then, off the back roads to Bolton Abbey for a final cuppa. Bit of a mistake - its only when everyone else has the same idea that you realise how hard it is to overtake cars on a twisty 'C' road. There were a LOT of 30 mph Sunday drivers...... Still, we eventually got there and had some (expensive) drinks and another chat for an hour.

Then, off to the petrol station and home. So, we never made it to Barnard Castle, but it was still a nice day out. I think we did more sitting around than riding - but it was very hot.....

Some pictures to pass the time !

At the start.
Waiting at Devils Bridge - Sue said she wanted to sit in the sun - so she did. We met Geoff & Lyn here - fresh from France.
After lunch, what could be nicer than eating ice cream....But watch out for the chickens
After Hawes, we took the back roads to Kettlewell and Bolton Abbey (I zoomed off to get these pics)
And lazing around (again) in the sunshine. Steve and Mandy decided to "play phones"
