Ride to Skipton

Friday dawns and the forecast for Sunday is good. So, an email to all and sundry requesting volunteers for the first Ad-hoc ride of the year goes out.

Sunday comes quickly, I open the curtains, and see loads of frost on the ground. Ah well, it's on 7am and I'm sure it will be better by 10. Sure enough, it's warmed up considerably and is now a balmy +3c. So, check the tyres, fill up and off we go to Birch Services to see who has turned up. Tony was there waiting for me (very keen) and John arrived soon after on his Triumph. A coffee while we wait, but no-one else arrives, so we set off.

John had this plan to get to Skipton the long way round, so we both followed him down the motorway, off at J19, a few turns here and there and suddenly we were passing the motorway services again. Weird. But the plan gradually came together and we had some spirited riding across the moors and along some nice back roads. Eventually we came to Skipton where we parked up and went off in search of a chippie. "I know where it is" says John. Sure enough, we found one, but, just like his bike navigation, we seemed to go round in a circle to get to it.

Suitably fed and watered, we got back on the bikes and set off to Hawarth and then back to Bury, all the time choosing interesting roads. Very pleasant. Finally we rolled up to John & Judy's place where a roast dinner was soon steaming for us. Lovely.

Since I had my satnave running, I managed to capture our route. Click on this picture to see it.

Only a few pictures this time....

At the start waiting to go.
A happy Tony (I'm not sure how you can tell under that lot!)
Arriving at Skipton, Tony manages to park in a flower pot.
Waiting outside the very popular chippie - probably because it's the only one in town.
Men always brag about the size - now, you get to judge !
