Whitchurch

The met office forecasted warm and sunny and for once they got it right. The perfect day for a bike ride.

When I got to Polar there were a few bikes waiting and more to come. But they weren’t all there for the ride to Whitchurch. Alan nicked most of them for Oulton Park racing. [Note from Alan - I don't think I did - and anyway, Oulton Park was fantastic]

We were left with seven bikes including three new riders invited by Jean. Welcome to Lee, Rory and Pam.

We found some nice A and B roads through Middlewich, Winsford and Nantwich and onto one of my favourite roads. The A534 from Nantwich to Wrexham is a fantastic road with a nice tea stop near the roundabout with the A41.

After a short break we headed toward Wrexham, then took the B5130 to bypass the town and got onto the A528 for Shrewsbury which is another great road when the sun is out and the tarmac is dry. After lunch at the Raven café we headed home via Stone, Leek and a short stop at Tittesworth Reservoir near Leek. Then Clive took us on some nice single track roads to Macclesfield where Gary took over again to lead everyone to Jeans for a drink before going home.

A great day was had by all. Great roads, great people and the buddy system worked perfectly.

Pictures from Jean and Derek.

This was the crowd the went to Oulton Park (also joined by Peter later on)
And these were the ones that went on the ride (With Jean as well, of course).
Stuck at the lights (Peter doesn't look too happy!)
And off again
