Liverpool

(or not)

This day should be entitled “Five go for a cuppa (or two)”. Because we seemed to do a lot of that. But more on this later.

This was the run of the postponed ride to Liverpool Docks. The weather was warmer but it was very windy. Still, this is MANHOC we are talking about - onwards and upwards. So, I get the bike out, get togged up and off I go to our start point. Where I find that the Little Chef has closed down so we are FORCED to use McDonalds for our brews (not that we didn’t before, but I always felt a little bit guilty using the Little Chef car park).

After a while Mark (CBF1000) joined me. Followed closely by Malcolm - who had ridden over from Southport just so he could ride back - good man! The fourth to arrive was the other Mark (VFR1200) and lastly was Phil on his Triumph 1050 hack (you know, the one that needs 4 days to get the battery in good enough condition to start the bike).

After a brew and a chat we set off. The roads were a little bit wet and greasy, but nothing that the BT023’s couldn’t handle, so we made good progress. I found some great riding roads through the Trough of Bowland and we soon got over past Preston and into Southport. We were passing the classic Fish & Chip shop, so it seemed a shame not to stop - so we did. More brews and some food were consumed before we set off again. But only 3 miles up the road to Malc & Vals place where yet another brew was consumed along with some very nice lemon cake (thanks Val!).

While it was lovely being there and admiring Malcs paintings (he’s pretty good!), we were supposed to be out on the bikes. But, by this time, we’d sort of lost the will to go to Liverpool and just fancied some more riding. So, while Mark (CBF) went home, the rest of us found some nice back roads over to Chorley and then to Rivvy Barn, where we just HAD to stop for a brew and some more cake.

From there, it was over the hills to Belmont, Bolton, Bury and home. A great day out.

A short clip of our ride - Croston way. Greasy but fun.
