Ride to Heartbeat land

This report is from our leader Malcolm - to whom I give heartfelt thanks.

The day’s ride was long and hard, as I choose all the fab biking roads I could find from my best biking road map, and joined them up together.

So my routes were definitely not direct, and turned out to be quite demanding, but what fun!

Fortunately, the weather was kind and though rather cloudy with the sun breaking through in the later afternoon, but most important the roads were dry and we could fly (of course within the legal limits).

From Rising Bridge, 17 bikes with 3 pillions, took the A59 to Skipton, then turned left in the country and over the moors, pass Grassington onto Thirsk.

After the coffee stop at Thirsk, which to the surprise of many was not a “food stop!” we rode to the southern part of the North York Moors National Park.

Turning left at Hemsley to head directly north through the central part of the Park.

This latter road I believe is most famously called the “TT of Northern Yorkshire” - “absolutely fab”, though our chairman said, he preferred Shap - the debate continues!

We continued turning right, following the northern part of this beautifully park, and rode south to Goathland.

After turning in for Goathland from the A169, we slowed to a stop to view the village railway station, famous for being featured in Harry Potter films, from the road ; and in Goathland,  fame for the filming of Heartbeat, the General Store, the garage and Pub

Fed and watered in the Aidensfield tearooms, the return journey took in the southern part of the Park and onto Northallerton.

Then, roads over the top moors to Skipton, and following the end of the ride struggle to demount, but with many smiling faces, - a nice pub tea was most welcomed to complete an excellent day.
