The famous Pancake Run

Yes, it’s that time of the year again. Our famous Pancake Run. Well known throughout the known universe as the best combination of riding and eating that any biker can have. So, I had a word with “him upstairs” to make sure the weather would be OK and we got ready for the big day.

Sure enough, Sunday dawns and it’s a cracking start. Lovely and sunny with the prospect of yet more sunshine. So, on with the leathers (no thermals, they’re for wimps) and I set off for the start point hoping for a few bikes to turn up (we had a large pan of chilli waiting to be eaten and another large bowl full of pancake mixture).

I arrived at about 10:15 (11am start) to find I wasn’t the first - Dave R. was there ahead of me. Very keen. So we chatted while more and more bikers turned up. By the time we set off, I counted 25 bikes and at least 4 pillions. As per the Manhoc tradition, we did set off 20 minutes late - but that is to be expected by now.

So, with dark visor on, we set off into the sunshine. The ride was lovely over the tops to Saddleworth Moor - just a couple of places where the roads were somewhat slippery (whoops, there goes the front AGAIN!!). But we all coped and enjoyed the lovely scenery (snow on the hills, salt on the roads) while basking in almost double figure temperatures. We arrived at Colne at around 1pm to be told to park in the coach park as the car park was a bit full. Yes, it was the last day of the sales at Boundary Mills. Oops - what a shame.

Tea and cakes were soon consumed and we blasted off for the last part of the journey back to our house. This time, John led us and we had a mad dash over the back roads, which was fun. No one got lost and we arrived back in plenty of time.

Once disrobed, everyone tucked into chilli, pancakes, tea and coffee and much merriment was enjoyed by all. But soon it was time for the others to depart and for me to do the washing up.

A superb day enjoyed by all. Thanks to everyone who came and an especially big thanks to Norma for all the food.
