About Us

Did you know?

Scouting in Greater Manchester North has over 6,500 members—and growing!

"Greater Manchester North Scouts are leading the way in bringing the excitement of Scouting to more young people than ever before."

The Scouts provide young people aged 4-25 with thrilling activities and personal development opportunities. Greater Manchester North includes six Scout Districts, covering Bolton, Bury, Rochdale, and Oldham Council areas.

Who are We?

In Greater Manchester North Scouts, we believe every young person deserves an adventure. Whether it’s a Beaver Scout spending their first night away from home or an Explorer Scout embarking on an international trip, adventure is at the core of everything we do.

From cliff abseiling to lake zorbing, fire lighting to beach paddling, our members enjoy an incredible variety of activities—learning, growing, and having fun along the way. Each section offers unique activities at various times and locations, ensuring something exciting is always happening. Part of a worldwide movement with over 30 million members, our opportunities are nearly limitless.

Scouting in Greater Manchester North supports young people aged 4-25 through fun, challenges, unique experiences, and the chance to contribute positively to their communities. We help youth and adults reach their full potential by developing essential life skills, from teamwork and leadership to cultural awareness and self-motivation.

Sowhat do our volunteers do?

Everyday adventure is made possible by our adult volunteers, who support Scouts in various roles, from direct engagement with young people to group management, District support, and even County-level roles as Charity Trustees.

Volunteers gain as much as they give, enjoying adventure, training, friendship, and fun. Our award-winning training program ensures adults have rewarding experiences in Scouts. With over 90% of volunteers finding that their skills benefit their work or personal lives, the impact of Scouting is lifelong.

What is our commitment?

Our adults are committed to delivering a fun, exciting, and safe program. The Scout Association’s policies, guidelines on behavior, and safety protocols ensure young people can safely enjoy their experiences and thrive.

Who can be a Scout?

Scouting is open to all young people aged 4-25, regardless of background, gender, or faith, plus plenty of roles for adults to get involved as Leaders, Administrators, Supporters, or Volunteer Managers.
